Economy Will Become if More Sponsors Drop Tiger: When Michael Jordan returned to the NBA,McDonald’s stock skyrocketed. When Tigerreturns the PGA, will the same happen to his sponsors I’m not so sure. The economy is much different now than it wasduring Jordan’s era. What’s more likelyto happen is that the Tiger scandal will end up costing some folks theirjobs. Why Every major corporation in the United Statesappears hell bent on cutting costs. Tiger was a marketing behemoth. He still is in many corporations. Don’t be fooled. The Tigerpersona demanded an entire “team” of marketers. Some of those teams may be obliterated all together. Oh, we won’t hear about it, and those wholose their jobs will have to sign waivers stating that they won’t talk aboutit, but it’s going to be a fact. And, yes, stock prices will drop and a lot of people willlose a lot of money on Wall Street too. Some already have, I’m sure. Asif Tiger didn’t feel guilty enough, rightTo See Who Tiger EndsUp With: Okay, maybe this isn’t themost important reason to watch the scandal, but before getting to the nextreason this has to be addressed. What’sthe best way to repair your image with the public when you’ve been out screwingcocktail waitresses and porn stars Findan “anti” to shack up with. Tiger willreturn and he will return with a girlfriend whom everybody either knows to bean incredible person, or someone unknown that has a spotless record.Think about it. Tigerwins his first tournament back and instead of them asking about the porn starsthey ask him, “How’s Jill doing” “Oh,she’s doing great. You know…afterreflecting on everything, I believe that I’ve always been in love with her. I never stopped loving her and I really thinkthat me acting out was a way to try to temper that love. Now that I am back with my soulmate…I feelcomplete, you know I don’t have towin. I don’t have to prove anything anymore.” Jill, by the way, turns out to be Tiger’sgirlfriend from Stanford that he felt the need to dump shortly before 1997because, well, he just couldn’t meld his personal life with his professionallife. To See If the NewGirlfriend Ploy Will Work: The newgirlfriend ploy, by the way, is the only way to get the old Tiger personaback. I should be charging Tiger foreven writing this, but, hey, I love golf El Tigre, so the idea is your’s forfree, man!America loves the comeback kid! The best way for Tiger to do that is to admitthat he didn’t just make transgressions, but that he was actually addicted tosex and that it was no laughing matter. He needs to come up with even more sordid things he did before comingback. Really, you ask Uh..yes! There’s a thin line between a person that disgusts us and a person wefeel sorry for in the United States. Think Robert Downey Jr., right He was a buffoon and we hated him until wesaw him, with our own eyes, stand up in court and say to the judge, “I have aproblem, sir. I am a heroin addict, sir. Going to jail will not helpme. I am an addict. I admit it. I do not justify it” Blah, blah, blah. Sure, it was dopey, but it worked! Here’s another publicity stunt for you, El Tigre. Yes, this one is free as well! Stand in front of the judge before thedivorce is final and say, “I am giving Erin 65 of what I currently own rightnow. 65, sir, because I cannot justifywhat I did. Damn the pre-nup! I deserve this! (turn to Erin..eyes watering), I am so sorry,Erin! So, sorry!” It would really work if Jill, standing nextto you, dotted a tear form her eye and patted you on the back.Paying Attention toTiger’s Problems is Fun and We Could Use Some Fun: The economy is in the tank, most of themovies out there suck, the NFL is nearing the end of its season, we can’treally afford to attend that many sporting events right now anyhow, there aremeds in the tap water, nobody knows what to do with Afghanistan including ourCommander in Chief, the world seemingly is going into a deeper and deeper funkeveryday.Don’t we deserve a break The Tiger Woods scandal is a break. It’s actually fun to read about this crap and comment on it and converseabout it. If it wasn’t fun, then nobodywould be doing it. But here we are.Don’t be so self-righteous, people. Larry David, the Seinfeld and Curb YourEnthusiasm creator, would probably agree with me…having fun at someone else’sexpense is okay at times. At least you’re making us laugh, Tiger! Take comfort in that if you can.. Now that the Champions League Group Stage has ended, there are 16 sides remaining who are each looking to become the champions of Europe. In case you are unaware of how the eight matchups look, here is a list of what's in store for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.Lyon vs Real MadridManchester United vs AC MilanFC Porto vs ArsenalBayern Munich vs FiorentinaVfB Stuttgart vs FC BarcelonaOlympiacos vs BordeauxInter Milan vs ChelseaCSKA Moscow vs. SevillaNow that you have seen the list of the matchups in the Round of 16 in the Champions League, here is my take on what are the most compelling matchups, what potential upsets could exist, and who will advance onto the quarterfinals. Lyon vs. Real MadridAfter getting their way through Group C, Real Madrid will go against French giant Lyon in their Round of 16 matchup.Everything has gone according to plan in the Champions League this year for Real Madrid, who, after dishing out record amounts of cash at players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká this summer, they will look to advance further in the Champions League.Meanwhile for Lyon, they finished second in Group E and have faced the winners of the Champions League in the Round of 16 for two straight seasons in Manchester United and Barcelona going into this matchup, and they will have to do well against Real Madrid, who are hosting the final this year in the Bernabéu.This matchup is a compelling matchup between two quality sides, and Lyon will look to advance out of the Round of 16 for the first time since 2006.Finally, Lyon will try to advance, but Real Madrid will be determined to win, and they will advance due to their strong play at the Bernabéu in the second leg. Manchester United vs. ArsenalAfter both sides easily advanced in Groups D and H,respectively, Porto and Arsenal will meet again after facing each other in Group Stage of last season's Champions League.During the Champions League last season, both sides won at their home stadiums, and Porto won Group G by one point over the Gunners.Anyway, this matchup will be very interesting to watch due to each side's record in the Champions League at their home stadium as it will be interesting to see if Arsenal will become the second ever English side to win in Porto's Estádio do Dragăo, or if Porto will be able to make up from their 4-0 humiliating loss in London. In this matchup, I expect Arsenal to get through as they will be able to get a key away goal in the first leg, and they will wrap it up back in the Arsenal Stadium during the second leg. Bayern Munich vs. BordeauxIn one of the better matchups of the Round of 16, Olympiacos will play against French and Group A Champion Bordeaux.Olympiacos had a solid qualifying campaign in Group H, and due to their home stadium being the always intimidating Karaiskakis Stadium.Meanwhile for Bordeaux, they have looked great so far in the Champions League this season, as they were able to make great work of Bayern Munich and Juventus in the group stage and appear to be a side that could make a deep run in the Champions League.Due to this, Bordeaux should be able to advance to the quarterfinals despite losing in the Karaiskakis Stadium by playing well in the second leg at the Stade Chaban-Delmas. Inter Milan vs ChelseaIn another English vs.

SevillaIn the final matchup of the Champions League Round of 16, CSKA Moscow will play against Sevilla in a matchup of two sides that took completely separate roads on their way to this matchup. For CSKA, it appeared it would be a stretch to advance to the knockout stage, but after two inspired performances against Manchester United, CSKA Moscow were able to beat Wolfsburg and Beikta in their final two matchups to advance.Meanwhile for Sevilla, they had an extremely easy group in Group G and will now have to face their first truly big test in the Champions League this season.I think that an upset here will get CSKA Moscow onto the quarterfinal for the first time in their history, as their home advantage in the Luzhniki Stadium during the first leg will be enough for the Russian side to advance onto the quarterfinal, despite the suspensions to Alexei Berezutsky and Sergei Ignashevich due to taking a bannedsupplement in the Group Stage. Finally, I will want to wish all 16 sides best of luck, as they have been able to get to this stage due to hard work and dedication; for each of these sides, it could be the year to win the Champions League final.. Take two evenly matched teams, put them in a neutral site, mix in about a dozen All-Americans, then stir in two future Hall of Fame coaches, add a couple of Heisman candidates, and two of the finest defenses in the country and what do you getYou get one great matchup You get the No 1 Alabama Crimson Tide versus the No. 2 Texas Longhorns in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. Both teams are loaded with talent, both teams are well coached, and both teams are undefeated and have earned the right to play for the championship. This game will likely go to the team whose coach can cultivate a mental edge for his playersan ace in the hole so to speak.Lets examine the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns to see who may be holding that ace in the hole.Which team has the momentum and which team has the mental edgeOn one hand, Texas did not look like National Championship contenders in their last game with Nebraska in the Big-12 Championship. The Cornhuskers held Texas to 13 points and 202 total yards, as Nebraska held the lead with 1:44 left in the game. Had it not been for the Nebraska kickoff going out of bounds and a 15 yard penalty as time was running out, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Then there was McCoy's infamous throw out of bounds with just one-second left on the game clock that almost cost the Longhorns a trip to the BCS Championship. If Texas came out of that game feeling a little disrespected with all of the fallout from the media about their poor performance, they have no one to blame but themselves.Texas also played a close game against their in state rival, Texas A&M. The highly touted Texas defense gave up 532 yards and 39 points to the 6-6 Aggies. On the other hand, Alabama cemented their spot in the BCS National Championship Game by pummeling the defending National Champion Florida Gators 32-13 in the SEC Championship on Dec. 5th.Still, Alabama also struggled against their in state rival, giving up 21 points and 332 yards to the 7-5 Auburn Tigers. If the Crimson Tide has a disadvantage, it might be because they are going into the game as the media favorites.ESPN has been trying to paint Alabama as Goliath and painting poor little Texas as David ever since the BCS pairings were announced on December 6, 2009.That is something that didn't sit well with Alabama coach Nick Saban and he let the folks at ESPN know it during an interview that very evening.Saban questioned why they were being portrayed as a perennial favorite based on one game.Having the media showering Alabama with compliments along with all of the accolades that Alabama's players are receiving this year could serve as a distraction. It could also create a false sense of confidence for the Crimson Tide going into the BCS title game.Alabama did have a record number of players placed on the All-American team for 2009 and Mark Ingram did edge out Texas's Colt McCoy for the Heisman Trophy.Still, is that a reason to declare Alabama the de-facto National ChampionsI can certainly see where this could cause the Texas players to arrive in Pasadena with a gigantic chip on their shoulder, and teams with something to prove are always very dangerous. On the other hand, Colt McCoy did come close to sweeping all the other offensive awards this year including the Maxwell, Walter Camp, Davey O'Brien, and Johnny Unitas Awards.Texas also landed their share of players on the All-American team, including Colt McCoy. So where's the beefOne would think if Texas and Colt McCoy are feeling overlooked, it must be because McCoy did not add the Heisman Trophy to his long list of awards.Or perhaps it is because Texas came up a couple players short on the All-American team compared to AlabamaI guess if there is something to the notion that Texas is somehow being disrespected by the media, it's based on the smallest of margins and is being completely overblown. Some in the local Texas media are actually calling the Longhorns out in an apparent attempt to inflame the situation.

"We were told for the last three weeks if we won, we'd be in the game. We did that."So on the one hand, Nick Saban is faced with everyone in the media telling his team how great they are, meanwhile Mack Brown has the luxury of letting the media motivate his team for him.Let me add this, even though Texas may have felt it has been disrespected for the last two weeks, Alabama has every right to feel it has been disrespected for the last 10 years by the media.Everyone, and I mean everyone in the media, has had their fun at Alabama's expense for the past 10 years. So if anyone has something to prove in Pasadena on January 7th, it would be the Crimson Tide.Texas on the other hand, has been on top of the college football world for almost 10 years. If Texas fans are feeling slighted, they won't be getting any sympathy from Alabama fans who have suffered through one of the worst football slumps in school history. If Alabama needs more motivation, there is plenty to be had. Lest we forget, Alabama has never beaten Texas in eight tries. You might say that they too have had a gigantic chip on their shoulder. The Crimson Tide is talented, but what makes them a formidable opponent is their tenacity.Alabama has played inspired football all year, as displayed in the SEC Championship and other key games. They seem to peak at the right times. If there is some sort of mental edge in this game in favor for the Longhorns, it might be more a product of media hype than reality.Even so, it may pose a real problem for Alabama should they fall in the trap that is being set for them.It will be up to Alabama's players and Nick Saban to filter out the media clutter in order to see this game as it really isa difficult and important game.Saban has been down this road before and this team got a taste of being sold a bill of goods in last years Sugar Bowl, where they were blindsided by the No.
